November Entrepreneurs Unplugged: With Roy Dimoff, Chairman and CEO of Viawest

In April 2008, Silicon Flatirons launched Entrepreneurs Unplugged, a meeting place that provides faculty, students and community members with technical backgrounds the opportunity to learn about entrepreneurship through the experiences of a successful local entrepreneur. Each Entrepreneurs Unplugged meeting features food, drink and - most importantly - an experienced entrepreneur who shares his/her start-up experiences. The program offers students and faculty an opportunity to learn how a successful start up is created, as well as an opportunity to ask direct questions to the guest entrepreneur and network with members of the local entrepreneurial community. Robert Reich of Me.dium (who leads the New Tech MeetUp) and Jason Mendelson of the Foundry Group, a leading venture capital firm, serve as the program's moderators.

Entrepreneur's Unplugged is notable for helping catalyze activities across disciplines at the University of Colorado. The April event was the first of a monthly series that will resume on September 17th with Paul Berberian, a successful Colorado entrepreneur, as our guest. Each event will provide different perspectives regarding the creation and launch of startups as well as the challenges entrepreneurs face in the process. By so doing, the program will provide students with examples of different career paths that have led to successful entrepreneurial ventures. Moreover, each program will provide an opportunity for students, faculty and community members to establish meaningful networks, thereby helping to galvanize entrepreneurism at the University and in the Boulder community.
